Camp Division Head (Free Room, Board $4000+/6 weeks)

Job Location

Pennsburg, PA, United States

Job Description

This is a summer position living and working with kids in PA. These are gifted, 2e and ADHD kids with high intellect working on social skills development. We are hiring leadership staff to supervise groups of kids and staff on a modern campus.

Key duties include helping kids to become the best version of themselves by scaffolding social skills, building confidence and helping kids build meaningful bonds with other kids. Teachers, academic specialists, special education teachers, experienced paraprofessionals and school social workers have all been successful in our summer community. Typically our division heads will work with the Program Director within an established budget to provide exceptionally fun and innovative opportunities for our campers. First and foremost, the they are responsible for the safety and welfare of campers and staff when engaged in their program activities. Each professional is hired for a unique and specialized knowledge as well as the ability to work with a non- neurotypical population.

Typically this job will include providing supervision of and guidance to general counselors as how to best assist during each activity throughout the day. At times their role will range from assistant instructors to working with campers 1:1 outside the scope of the activity in order for the activity to be a success for the remainder of the campers. Additional time for professional planning as well as time off is built into each day. Excellent communication skills in this position help with understanding the oft changing dynamic between and among campers and staff under your supervision.

Division Heads will be responsible for specific portions of written camper evaluations (in collaboration with Head Counselors) and will be represented in daily leadership meetings to ensure smooth camp operation. This position includes additional time on site (with appropriate training and certifications provided) prior to general staff arrival.

In addition to scheduled evenings off, each division head has a 36 hour day off each week. They also go with campers on weekly adventures out of camp, ranging from Hershey Park Amusement Park to the Baltimore Inner Harbor and may be required to drive a 15 person van for these excursions.

Our Division Heads generally live in private dorm rooms and assist with the age group of young men to whom they have been assigned. Specifically this means serving as a supportive extra set of hands during wake-up, transitions, shower hour and bedtime. They can expect to help with evening activities several times a week and serve as an on call supervisor after lights out on a rotational basis.

Camp-wide, the staffing ratio is 2 adults for every 5 youth and this allows for a great deal of support and reinforcement at all levels. All staff enjoys the flexibility of copious indoor space for program areas. From air-conditioned lounges with televisions, to incredible gyms, fitness center, heated indoor pool and a myriad of other facilities, including an art studio featuring skylights and a kiln, this camp experience provides a synergistic blend of traditional camp elements (from fishing to swimming to overnight trips with campfires and marshmallows), to innovative offerings such as the STEM academy.
