Who You Are The CIEE Milan HSSA Program Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Program Manager in delivering the operational side of activities related to all High School Summer Abroad activities and other CIEE Milan activities as needed. What You'll Do Program Planning: participate in the design and ensure the successful implementation of CIEE Milan educational programs. Student Discipline: support the High School team in communicating to participants applicable codes of conduct and the consequences of noncompliance; take appropriate action when aware that participants are in violation of CIEE codes of conduct. Teamwork: the Program Assistant will report to the HSSA Program Manager and Center Director. In addition, the Program Assistant will work with US-based and local Program Leaders to keep them updated on a daily basis of any changes in program activity i.e. unexpected delays etc. The PA supports the PLs in chaperoning groups and stepping in for PLs on designated days off. Excursions: available for travel on student trips on some weekends and during some evenings. Student support: responsible for scheduling doctor’s appointments, accompanying participants to the doctor, the pharmacy or purchasing medications on behalf of the student, if necessary, or to their housing. Emergency management: during office hours, responsible for handling urgent or emergency situations that may arise. Homestay recruitment: responsible for supporting the Homestay Coordinator to meet and recruit prospective host families for Summer programs and follow-up as needed, if necessary. Crisis and Emergency: in rotation with the other center staff, carry the 24-hour emergency telephone. Additionally, this position requires willingness to step in if/when major crisis take place also during office hours. Other duties as assigned. What You'll Bring Readiness to grow and develop yourself, our client group, and our Company Relevant work experience, preferably in Milan. Knowledge of the local context. Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and Italian and in English. Ability to effectively communicate with students, U.S., and local university partners, and CIEE staff internationally. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to engender the trust and confidence of stakeholders in a constantly changing environment, and ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of often sensitive situations. Ability to handle multiple ongoing tasks and prioritize appropriately Extremely strong customer service skills: ability to resolve often high-ambiguity issues fairly and expediently. Meticulous attention to detail. Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated integrity, self-motivation, and a proactive “can-do” attitude. In-depth knowledge of U.S. and Milan business practices, academic processes, and culture. Previous work experience with adolescents / pre-college students is a plus.
