Job Description
The Architecture and Facility Management Department invites applicants for a 9-month tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be instrumental in implementing a new Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, which is being submitted to the University community for consideration this fall. The department is seeking colleagues who are disciplined, creative, and collegial and who bring engagement and joy to the classroom. The successful applicant will hold a graduate degree in architecture or a closely related field and will have applicable work experience in architectural practice. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience. In addition to a background in practice, applicants should have a working knowledge of and commitment to sustainable design and sustainable systems. Preference will be given to candidates who show an interest in and an aptitude for marketing an academic program through online advertising campaigns, social media, high school and community college visits, summer camps, or other appropriate channels. Applicants with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: teaching first-year design and/or visualization; Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; Rhino and/or Revit; architectural detailing, construction materials, and/or advanced building systems.
The anticipated start date of this position is January of 2025 at the earliest and August of 2025 at the latest.
Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: Master's degree in field: acceptable options include an accredited M.Arch, or an accredited B.Arch degree plus post-professional master's degree in a related field such as design, sustainability, or building systems. Required Work Experience: A minimum of three years of professional practice in architecture. Required Licenses and Certifications: Physical Demands:

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Professional licensure and an NCARB certificate are preferred. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to teach a full course load during the 9-month academic year. Full-time status is defined by the faculty contract with the university and currently is defined as 24 credit hours or 36 contact hours per academic year but may be limited by contact hours or student credit hours per the contract. Course assignments may include any course taught within the four-year degree sequence.
Recruitment of students (including Dawg Days, Admitted Student Days, visits to high schools or career tech centers, and other University-outreach events) will occur throughout the academic year and include some Saturdays.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which include advising students; orientation and registration of students; participation in program, school, college, and university committees; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Enthusiastically support student success through active involvement with individual students and student organizations and student competitions, both within and outside of the classroom.
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
