Merchants Insurance Group, a Northeast leader in Property and Casualty Insurance, has an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for a Systems Development Manager to join our collaborative and dynamic Information Technology team in our Corporate Headquarters located in Buffalo, NY.

The Systems Development Manager reports to the Vice President, Chief Information Officer and is responsible for leading and mentoring a team of talented Information Technology professionals handling a wide variety of development projects using Cobol based systems and the integration of those systems with modern tools and platforms, including Cloud based services.

Merchants offers its colleagues a Hybrid work schedule. The Hybrid work schedule requires 8 full days per month in the office, with the option to work the remaining days at home or in the office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for leading System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities and projects.
Develops formal project plans as appropriate, and uses plans to manage project activities, resources, and deliverables.
Acts as a technology leader on application development projects, sets clear goals for project teams and programming staff, and works to ensure timely and quality delivery of project deliverables.
Assists with researching and evaluating new application technologies, and with the implementation of those selected.
Manages and develops all staff reporting to this position.



Qualifications & Skills:

Qualified candidates will have a 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience required.
5 years management experience and leadership roles in application development.
Prior experience with development of Cobol based systems or coding on an AS400 Platform and the integration of those systems with modern tools and platforms, including Cloud based services.
Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.

Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:

Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The actual compensation will be determined based upon experience and other factors permitted by law. The initial pay range for this position is $94,200 - $126,000.
