Job Description

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:

NAYA Family Center seeks an organized, warm, and capable advocacy or youth services professional to be our next Two Spirit Program Coordinator. NAYA aims to uplift and support Two Spirit youth, helping them to connect with their cultural identities and communities. The Two Spirit Program Coordinator will collaborate with internal and external partners to build a network of support for Two Spirit youth aged 8 to 24. Two Spirit programming will center youth voice and youth leadership. This role reports to the Director of Youth and Educational Services (YES).

NAYA offers exceptional benefits, including free medical, dental and vision insurance for employees (and low cost care for family members), 401(k) retirement plan with 6% match, paid vacation and paid holidays.

This is a full-time, hourly, nonexempt role with work hours of 9 am to 6 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch. This role will work in the NAYA Family Center, as Youth and Educational Services (YES) work is done in person.

Starting pay is $27 to $29/hour which is equivalent to just over $60,000/year.

Who You Are

  • You have lived or work experience in the Two Spirit LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Ideally, you have lived or work experience in the Native community.
  • You have at least two years of work experience supporting youth.
  • You have a calm demeanor. In situations where tensions run high, you help those around you to re-regulate themselves. Your presence always lowers the temperature in a room.
  • You have experience with programming. You love running programs and events. Because you care about them and connect with them, youth want to be around you and participate in your events.
  • You are an exceptional project manager. You always have a plan, and you always meet your deadlines.
  • You are an on-time person. You don’t let your team or your clients down.
  • You are self aware. You are able to listen well and center others. You tend not to be defensive. You are generally OK making mistakes and taking responsibility for them.
  • You have your own car and a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license with no more than one major violation in the last three years, so that you can be covered under NAYA’s liability insurance. You don’t mind using your personal vehicle for work purposes (mileage reimbursed).
  • You prefer a team environment at work, rather than working alone. You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in, even when it’s not your job.

What You’ll Do

  • Help Two Spirit youth ages 8 to 24 to feel seen, understood, valued and connected.
  • Conduct pro-social group facilitation, reproductive health education and violence prevention programming.
  • Connect Two Spirit youth and their families to NAYA’s services and other community resources. Make referrals to internal and external resources.
  • Model healthy and positive (i.e. strengths-based) communication. Communicate with youth and their families by phone, text and email.
  • Facilitate the Two Spirit Safe Space Alliance (TSSSA) with the goal of developing youth leadership.
  • Lead monthly gatherings for Two Spirit youth, including the annual Queer Prom.
  • Lead overnight trips to colleges and universities or other Two Spirit gatherings.
  • Contribure Two Spirit programming to seasonal activites such as Spring Break and Summer Camp.
  • Conduct outreach to Two Spirit youth who are not yet part of the NAYA Two Spirit community. Share community and resource information through social media (Instagram) and in person events.
  • Establish strong connections to Native people and Native communities in the Portland metro area.
  • Establish strong connections to other LGBTQIA+ youth services in the Portland metro area. Share best practices for serving these youth.
  • Integrate culturally relevant practices into all aspects of your work.
  • Be a role model for equity and inclusion.
