Job Summary

The Associate Controller holds an integral role in the Controller's office, which includes planning, directing, administering, and organizing financial management services and reporting for both internal and external purposes, as well as covering the financial accounting, analysis, and business support functions of the District. Additionally, this opportunity initiates financial analyses and implements approved policies, accounting practices, and procedures for the District.

Essential Functions

20% - Manages staff and operations in multiple work units in the Office of Financial Services & Controller (some combination of accounts payable, capital asset accounting, general accounting, grants accounting, payroll, reporting, student financial services, and treasury/investments).

20% - Analyzes and resolves complex accounting issues and evaluates internal and external impacts of changes in processes and policies.

20% - Provides direction, coordination, monitoring, planning, training, and evaluation of district-wide accounting and financial services; manages various district-wide projects including coordinating a variety of participants at all levels of the District; represents the Office of Financial Services & Controller on various district-wide committees and councils; coordinates with executive management, administrators, community members, vendors, financial institutions, and outside agencies.

15% - Plans and recommends both short-term and long-range strategies and solutions to accounting, finance, systems, and reporting issues.

15% - Initiates and implements district-wide fiscal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (federal, state, and local), generally accepted accounting principles, and Governing Board policies.

10% - Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field AND four (4) years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience. Examples include: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. Equivalency allowed for Non Academic area.

OR

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field AND six (6) years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience. Examples include: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. Equivalency allowed for Non Academic area.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience. Examples include: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. Equivalency allowed for Non Academic area.

OR

High School Diploma or GED AND ten (10) years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience. Examples include: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. Equivalency allowed for Non Academic area.

Desired Qualifications

A. CPA or CGFM Certification or CPA/CGFM track.
B. Five (5) or more years of experience with responsibility in three or more of the following functional areas: accounts payable, capital asset accounting, general accounting, grants accounting, payroll, reporting, student financial services and treasury/investments.
C. Experience with enterprise accounting systems upgrades (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Banner).
D. Experience working with multiple functional teams simultaneously.
E. Experience working with cross-functional teams.

Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift objects up to 30 lbs; flexible hours possible.
