Job Description

Together with the Recreation/Wellness Manager, plan, implement and coordinate recreation-based programs for youth with developmental disabilities. In collaboration with the Recreation/Wellness/Special Olympics Department and Manager, complete the monthly calendar of activities. Ensure community integration, exploration, and social enrichment programs for the benefit of the individuals to foster relationships with the community by creating new programs/events for youth eligible for WCBDD services based on need and interest. Seek opportunities for eligible youth to participate in integrated clubs or community organizations based on their interest. Work with other internal program staff such as Service and Support Administration (SSA), Transition Team, Wood Lane School and Early Intervention to offer appropriate and meaningful opportunities that offer exploration and skill development. Provide necessary supervision and direction to participants and volunteers at events.

Coach Special Olympics providing appropriate training and competition in traditional and unified sports for all eligible individuals in Wood County. Coach teams and work with volunteers in assisting with practices, competitions and attending local, regional, and state competitions. Teach the fundamentals of sports while instilling the values and spirit of Special Olympics. Provide necessary supervision and direction to athletes and volunteers at practices, competitions, or other events. Participate in program outreach to educate and recruit eligible participants. Assist with seasonal mailings and registrations, securing practice sites as needed and provide instruction and guidance of soft skill development.

Assist with other recreation, social and fitness activities within the Recreation Program (in person or virtual). Assist with the coordination and supervision of scheduled activities involving all individuals served.

Ensure a healthy and safe environment for individuals served at all times. Assist individuals served in basic living skills such as toileting, personal hygiene and eating during Special Olympics and Recreation programming. The performance of delegated nursing tasks including the giving and/or applying of medications as appointed by the administration and delegated to by nursing per ORC 4723.071 and 5123:2-6. Keep accurate and up-to-date records concerning the training and medical information of all individuals served.

Serve as a lifeguard for the Nichols Therapy Pool as assigned. Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility: act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Provide emergency care and treatment as required. Enforce rules and regulations regarding safe and proper use of the Nichols Therapy Pool.

Work with the Community Engagement Specialists to schedule and recruit volunteers to assist with programming as needed.

Collaborate with the Department Director and Recreation/Wellness Manager to develop the annual budget for youth recreation. Work cooperatively with the Fiscal Department on all expenditures, receipts, and providing necessary data for billing purposes.

Ensure all paperwork in completed in a timely manner. Respond to all phone calls and emails within a 24-hour period or by end of next scheduled workday.

Schedule vehicles for Recreation or Special Olympics outings. Will operate a vehicle in a safe and lawful manner while transporting ind ::: :::
