Job Description

Job Title: Summer Liberal Arts Institute Program Manager Department: Summer Liberal Arts Institute Classification: Exempt Grade: 10 FTE/Working Schedule: 1.0 Position Overview: The Summer Liberal Arts Institute Program Manager is an integral team member of a small team furthering the Summer Liberal Arts Institute s mission to provide a residential, academic, and social learning environment to college students, pre-college students, and k-12 teachers. Currently, the Summer Liberal Arts Institute (SLAI) creates a summer learning community for high school students to explore the liberal arts and earn Carleton college credits. Through SLAI, these Pre-College students discover dedicated faculty, supportive peers, and the flexibility to chart their own path through engaging activities and college-level academics. This individual leads the office s marketing efforts, manages Carleton student workers, orchestrates the competitive Pre-College application process, and coordinates summer program logistics. This individual will assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive recruitment and yield strategy. As the SLAI s summer offerings change and expand, the position may take on new responsibilities. This role requires quickly cultivating positive working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and community partners. This individual is collaborative, highly organized, and skilled at improving systems to support the Institute s strategic goals. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Marketing & Brand Oversight: Conduct annual pre-college market analysis and work with the Director to update the office s marketing strategy based on data analysis of current marketing outcomes Develop and execute the Summer Liberal Arts Institute s marketing strategy, particularly for new programs Lead the creative marketing strategy for the Summer Liberal Arts Institute; liaise with the Division of Communications to ensure brand continuity and consistency Innovate and maintain the Institute s website and develop the creative vision for a quarterly Office Newsletter Manage the day-to-day execution of SLAI digital and print marketing efforts (create social media ads, annual brochures, mass emails, etc.) that are inspiring and affirming to diverse audiences Student Employment: Lead the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training and supervision of student staff during the academic year Coordinate the selection process of summer student staff (this entails annually updating job descriptions, developing and coordinating hiring procedures, marketing the positions, facilitating interview processes, designing training and developing an evaluation system) Manage summer Program and Community Assistants (PACAs) from June-August Program Logistics: Oversee the management of the competitive pre-college program application process and enrollment database system to ensure full enrollment and transparency Lead the communication effort with applicants, families, and stakeholders by delegating responsibilities in the Summer email account and strategizing mass communication efforts Assist with the evaluation and selection of applicants and collection of tuition and fees Support the coordination of residence hall room assignments for all summer program attendees and student workers, OneCard building access management, and classroom and event reservations Orchestrate the use of campus vehicles during Pre-College programming Lead the planning, organization, and execution of the Summer Activities Schedule Assess office systems and analyze data/outcomes to increase automated processes and create more user-friendly experiences General Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with other offices and departments on campus to support the academic and social-emotional development of minors Promote a community culture of inclusion welcoming and nurturing people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences Attend staff meetings, retreats, and training as neede Track expenses and maintain accurate records of office budgets Supervision Received and Exercised: The Program Manager of the Summer Liberal Arts Institute will report directly to the Director of the Summer Liberal Arts Institute. The Program Manager will supervise Carleton student workers. Note: This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
