Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Lifeguard position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Lifeguard in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. This position effectively builds community and modifies as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Oversee lifeguard scheduling.
•Handle Communications with facility lifeguards.
•Complete monthly reports to the Director.
•Assist in overseeing events and programming.
•Maintain program rosters.
•Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
•Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
•Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
•Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
•Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
•Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
•Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
•Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action.
•Attends all staff meetings and training as required.

Every incidental duty connected with the Lifeguard job cannot be specified in the position description and the colleague, at the discretion of the CEO, may be required to perform duties that are not included in this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Minimum age 18 years old.
•Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid Certification
•Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
•Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
•Swim Instructor certification
•Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
•Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/Red Cross standards.
•Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
•Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
•Must be able to meet the Association's background screening requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
•Must be able to remain alert.
•Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
•Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
•Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
•Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
•Onsite attendance is required of this position.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
•Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Appropriate Touch classes
•Completion of the YMCA's Blood Borne Pathogens training
•Completion of the Social Media & Digital Communications class
•Completion of the YMCA's Safe Lifting training
•Additional training classes as required for this position to meet YMCA quality standards.
