POSITION TYPE:12 month, SHRA, FLSA Non-Exempt, Mandatory/Essential, 1.0 FTE

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. *on call for after hours and weekends

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $52,514 - $55,140

A sign-on bonus of $5,000 is available for the successful applicant of this position to be paid in two installments within 12 months of hire: $2,500 within 30 days of hire date & $2,500 12 months after hire date.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

To be eligible for the sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

This SHRA sign-on bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign a Terms and Conditions Agreement.

Description of Duties: This position performs a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled in the mechanical trades including but not limited to plumbing. This position must apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, construction and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. Be on-call on a rotating basis. This position may require lifting 90 pounds, climbing and working on ladders or elevated platforms. This is a mandatory position and is required to report to work in adverse weather conditions, during emergency closings, and during public health emergencies.

Position will be required to obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain a NC Plumbing License.

  • Install all new plumbing equipment.

  • Maintain and repair all steam, gas and plumbing lines.

  • Maintain and repair all drain, storm drain, and sewer lines.

  • Inspect building plumbing systems.

  • Install, maintain, alter, troubleshoot and repair plumbing devices, machinery and equipment.

  • Coordinate with other facilities and operations staff and contractors in determining plumbing needs and repairs.

  • Completes work orders in SchoolDude including corrective action and changes status from work in progress to complete.

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) tasks as per manufacturer recommended schedule and forward recommendations to supervisor.

  • Perform PM inspections and identify and record any deficiencies found.

  • Develop a good working relationship with customers; keep them informed; and follow up to ensure satisfaction.

  • Identify facilities-related plumbing problems that require in-depth analysis and identify resolutions.

  • Gather and analyze/interpret information to better understand the nature of the problem; evaluate options and choose appropriate action.

  • Ensure all work meets and/or exceeds applicable codes and standards.

  • Follow up on work orders until completion.

  • Manage time effectively and remain focused on issues until complete.

  • Be on call for after hours and weekend work

  • Set up for various events on campus.

  • Assist with campus snow/ice removal.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the plumbing trade; skill in the use and care of tools and ability to locate and correct defects in plumbing systems and equipment is required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Prefer five years of related work experience in the plumbing industry. Must have a valid driver's license with no serious driving-related convictions. This is a mandatory/essential position and is required to report to work in adverse weather conditions, during emergency closings, and during public health emergencies.

*Position will be required to obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain a NC Plumbing License.

Vacation: SHRA employees earn from 14 days to 26 days per year based on years of state service. Leave is earned monthly.

Retirement: Required participation for all employees working 3/4 time or more. Option (1) Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees are vested for retirement after 5 years. Option (2) The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees in ORP are vested after 5 years of participating in ORP. As a participant in either retirement program, you are automatically covered for short-term disability (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost), long term disability (eligible after 5 year of service/no cost). Death benefit of minimum $25,000/maximum $50,000 based on previous 12 month salary (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost).

Supplemental Retirement Plans: Supplemental retirement plans provide an additional opportunity to help you reach your retirement goals. Supplemental Plan offerings such as a 401(k), 403(b), or 457(b) on a Roth (after-tax) or pre-tax contributions from several different vendors.

Longevity: Payable to SHRA employees after 10 years of creditable state service (EHRA employees are not eligible).

Tuition Waiver: Three courses per academic year tuition free (at any of UNC 17 campuses that offer courses) for permanent full-time employees. Under Educational Assistance, tuition reimbursement may be available for attendance at Community Colleges provided courses taken pertain to current job or upgrades current job skills.

State Employees Credit Union: Membership welcomed. Contact the SECU Credit Union for information.

Community Service: 24 hours leave credited each calendar year (prorated for part-time) unless you choose the Mentoring/ tutoring option - 1 hour each week up to a max of 36 hours that schools are in session as documented by the elected board of the local education agency or the governing authority of any non-public school.

Facilities: Library & Gymnasium - other athletic facilities available at no cost to employees. Cafeteria on site.
