Job Summary

The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining a reliable, secure and efficient data communications network. The ability to deploy, configure, maintain and monitor all active network equipment in order to ensure smooth network operation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to installing, repairing, and troubleshooting the computer network from the physical to the transport layer.

Essential Functions

40% Core network
  • Develops and maintains medium sized Cisco network.
  • Supports Cisco Meraki Wireless
  • Provides technical guidance, expertise and education to other staff
  • Researches industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies and makes recommendations for implementation
  • Plans, organizes, and assigns the work of staff if serving as a lead worker;
  • Plans, coordinates and implements complex projects related to system server and/or information system security activities
20% Layer one physical wiring and supporting infrastructure

20% Design and troubleshoot endpoint communication and managing intermediary devices. Server and service such as network monitoring including PRTG, Meraki, Catalyst Center, Alertus Emergency Management, SonicWALL VPN, among others. Development and maintenance of Cisco VOIP telephony/FAX and Digital Video Solutions.

10% Documentation of maps, locations, configurations, and processes.

10% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience providing technical support in the installation, maintenance, and repair of networking infrastructure and systems.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience installing and troubleshooting physical copper and fiberoptic wiring
  2. Experience configuring and troubleshooting network switches, routers, firewalls. Cisco experience preferred.
  3. Experience deploying and troubleshooting Wireless networks. Meraki experience preferred.
  4. Previous experience working in a Higher Education Environment
  5. Recognized IT industry related certifications. CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, Network+, et.al.


Special Working Conditions
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require off hours or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
