What you'll be doing

The position offers the opportunity to work on non-fiction titles across a wide range of genres and to engage in many aspects of the publishing process.
  • Reporting to our Non-Fiction Publisher and providing them and the wider editorial team with administrative support
  • Providing administrative and editorial support, including but not limited to:
  • taking minutes in the editorial meetings, circulating the agenda and the minutes
  • submitting books for prizes and awards
  • sending out advance copies and proof mailings
  • assisting with cover copy
  • ensuring metadata is kept up to date
  • ensuring sales teams have the material they need
  • reading submissions
  • carrying out administrative tasks in relation to allocated projects.
Project-managing forthcoming books from manuscript to print/eBook:
  • liaising with the managing editor on copyedits and proofreads and checking the work
  • liaising with authors to resolve queries
  • preparing prelims and putting books into production
  • collating proofs, checking eBooks and inserting eBook endmatter
  • acting as the main point of contact between the editorial, art and production teams for allocated projects.
Who we are looking for

Quercus is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join a busy, friendly and motivated non-fiction team. We are looking for someone who is highly efficient, with a close eye for detail, and an excellent communicator. A can-do, enthusiastic attitude is essential, along with a proven ability to work well under pressure and multi-task. An interest in commercial, narrative non-fiction would be an advantage. Additionally, the successful candidate will be:
  • Interested in the processes and systems and eager to learn
  • Highly organised
  • Able to multitask and organise effectively
  • Confident with excellent grammar, spelling and verbal communication skills
  • A competent administrator with knowledge of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Biblio would be an advantage
  • A keen reader

This role can be based at our London office, or in our new regional office in Manchester, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
