Orion commercial non-fiction is comprised of four distinct imprints: Seven Dials, our central home for commercial non-fiction, Orion Spring, our health and wellbeing imprint, Trapeze, our conversation-starting list publishing across non-fiction and fiction, and our new currently unnamed smart-thinking imprint. We are a dynamic team of six senior commissioners and three supporting editors and assistants who are passionate about maintaining our reputation as an exciting home for talent publishing across genres.

What you'll be doing

Are you a resourceful and proactive team player with a keen eye for the latest TV drama or wellness trend?

Orion is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Editorial Assistant to join our award-winning and dynamic non-fiction publishing team.

In this role, you will report to the Editorial Director of Orion Spring, and will also support the Editorial Director of Seven Dials and Executive Publisher of Commercial Non-Fiction. You will also provide essential support to our wider Orion non-fiction team, alongside another Editorial Assistant.

As an Editorial Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Administrative Support: Handle general office tasks, manage internal systems, organise meetings, take minutes, generate reports, track publishing timelines, update Biblio, process invoices, submit books for awards, manage book proof mailouts, and assist the team of commissioners and editors.
  • Editorial Tasks: Proofread covers, write copy, prepare paperback editions for production, address author and agent queries, and handle reprint corrections.

You will also collaborate with various departments, including editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, and publicity.

Proven office experience is essential. Some publishing experience would be an advantage.

  • Passionate, adaptable, and positive
  • Excited by the most commercial non-fiction publishing i.e. memoir, cookery, true crime, self-help, parenting and gift
  • Strong general knowledge across various topics
  • Exceptional organisational skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Proficient at multitasking and prioritising tasks effectively
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Experienced in administration with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

The role can be based at our London or Sheffield office with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
